“Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.”

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow! What a Ride!”

– Hunter S Thompson

“I want to write the way Australian Super-car driver, Craig Lowndes drives and power-slides his powerful V8 Holden Super-car… with wild enthusiasm and a sense of abandonment, yet combined with the artists craft and smooth style of a Jamie Whincup (craig’s team-mate), a Stirling Moss, a Jim Clark, and especially that of the great Ayrton Senna, living on the razor-blade edge of life.”

A “Traitor’s” Heart

“It might be hard for you to understand this being an outsider; but South Africa holds the souls of its sons and daughters in an almost inescapable gasp. History cast all of us in a strange and gripping drama, but I had deserted the stage. I had no idea what my role was, and felt I would never be whole until I found out!”

and thanks Rian for providing the inspiration to me to recount my memoirs.

How a “South African “Moegoe”* became “politically aware”…

* I don’t really know how to explain that word

Thanks, once again, Madiba for all you have done for the “always beloved country”

This little e-book of memories is for you and all South Africans

About craiglock

About the Author on the ‘Writing Journey’: Craig Lock is an author of numerous books and the creator of the ORIGINAL online creative writing course. He has been writing full-time for the past “lucky” seven years. Craig has had five books published on various subjects with another 12 manuscripts being published and marketed on the Internet. The year 2000 * Updated in August 2011 About the Author on the ‘Writing Journey’: “I ‘work’ with ideas…and words are my tools.” “I write because I simply HAVE to” “Writers help readers to see the world differently.” “I write because something inside myself, inner and unconscious forces me to. That is the first compulsion. The second is one of ethical and moral duty.” “I write about and believe in the resilience of humanity- I truly believe in the triumph of the human spirit.” “I really value words and the power of them to communicate effectively; so in my various stories try to illustrate and then let readers draw their own conclusions about a certain scenario, as well as the characters searching for their own values in an increasingly complex social and political landscape. However, I do feel an obligation to give a complete picture of the situation, which is often not a clear-cut ‘black or white’ issue (as in South Africa). I never want to proscribe how people should think and feel my only duty as a writer is to be totally honest.”- craig “I love to write about, share stories of the resilience and courage of ordinary (what’s that?) people.” In his various writings Craig strives in some small way to break down and economic, social, cultural and religious barriers. Craig believes that whilst we should celebrate our differences, what we share in the form of our common humanity is way more important than what divides us. Craig believes in (and loves) sharing information and insights to try to make some difference in this world: to help and especially encourage people along life’s magical journey to live their dreams and be all they can be… and that brings him the greatest joy. He truly believes in the great potential of people to be all they can be an become. Craig is currently “working” on ‘Endless Possibilities, Far and Great Horizons’ – true inspiring stories of the human condition in overcoming seemingly impossible odds. In his life mission Craig hopes to encourage, motivate and inspire people to be their best through realising their full potentials and live their very best lives. Craig believes in the great potential of every human being in the journey of life and loves to encourage people to share their individual (and guiding) spirits, so that they become all that they are CAPABLE of being. Aseed of hope2head in clouds2

While he was still manager at NZI Life, Craig decided to fill in some of the long and boring days by doing some research and writing on stress, goal setting, motivation etc. He also wrote a short book on how he became politically aware, which his secretary typed for him. He certainly had a way with words and a real talent for writing. Shortly after this, he was made redundant and just before he left the life insurance company, we purchased a word processor. Doing this was a bit of a gamble, seeing that neither of us knew the faintest thing about word processing. However, his secretary assured us that it would come in extremely useful for his writing. History proved her correct and the word processor is one of the best investments we have ever made.

“I was taught that everything is attainable, if you’re prepared to give up, to sacrifice, to get it. Whatever you want to do, you can do it, if you want to do it badly enough. However, most humans quit too soon in life.” *

– former British racing driver Stirling Moss’s famous quote

“The characters seem to represent the virtues and the resilience of the ‘little’ people, a story (or stories) to which we can all relate. In essence it’s about hope and faith: a tale (and tales) of the unquenchable spirit of tenacity in battling on, no matter what are our circumstances. And then eventually finding a way, a pathway to overcome personal adversity … and to ultimately succeed in glorious triumph.”
